British photographer based in London and USA. Winner of the European Photo Award in 1990 and the ICP Infinity Award in 1993. In 2001, he participated in the Venice Biennale as one of Britain's leading artists. "Alexander McQueen Working Process" is a collection of photographs documenting the backstage of Alexander McQueen's Fall/Winter 2009 collection. Alexander McQueen died suddenly the following year at the age of 40. Over the past 30 years, Nick Waplington has used both traditional and new media to push the boundaries of contemporary art, producing works that are characterized by eclecticism. He also works with a wide range of media and materials, including paintings, sculptures, videos, computer-generated images, and stumbled upon natural and man-made objects. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and in recent years in group exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum, the Tate Modern, and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. In 2015, he became the first living British artist to have a solo exhibition in the main gallery of the Tate Modern.
